About me

I am a Painter and Tutor and I have lived and painted in Fife in Scotland for more than thirty years, dividing my time between creating my own work and sharing my creative skills with others. I derive almost as much satisfaction from enabling aspiring artists to develop latent talents for self-expression as I do from producing my own work. In 2017 I was surprised and delighted to be awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Adult Education and Art in Fife.

Although attracted to a variety of subjects I have been increasingly fascinated by dramatic seascapes.that have become a major focus of my work in recent years in which I seek to express the meeting between light and water. Over time I have worked in a wide range of media, but currently my principle medium is pastel. I find that pastel is perfect for rendering the layers of complex colour that are essential if one is to portray the depth and character of something that is so difficult to capture.

In parallel with this my watercolour style has developed into a freer form of expression which concentrates on colour and composition. My earliest work was in watercolour flower painting. That has been a life-long love to which I return frequently.

I have exhibited in galleries throughout Scotland and have paintings in private collections throughout Britain, and also in Europe, the USA and Canada.
